Key Concepts
Cognitive
Cognitive
- The sensory, motor, and cerebral systems are common tools used to accomplish everyday task and goals in a social setting.
- Leanring occurs through the simple process of observing the behaviour of another individual. This can be done through a Live model, Verbal instruction model, and Symbolic model.
- The modelling process consists of 4 key steps, Attention, Retention, Reproduction, and Motivation that highlight the idea of learned behaviour being adapted.
- Social learning theory emphasizes the relationships between an individual's environment and their behaviour.
- Observing, Considering, Rehearsing, Taking Action, Comparing, and Confirming are the 6 key steps that an individual will take before changing their behaviour.
Practical Suggestions for Educators
Observational Learning
Observational Learning
- Teachers should incorporate videos, examples, and audio aids to provide students with the opportunity to observe as it is a key component to their learning.
- Teachers should incorporate references, various types of technology, and relevant examples when planning lessons to ensure that their students are able to make connections and attach meaning to the information being presented.
- Teachers should reward students who practice positive behaviour as a way to motivate other students to mirror the behaviour.
- When students feel a sense of accomplishment after completing a difficult task, it increases their self-confidence. Teachers can acknowledge their efforts by providing a personalized certificate of achievement.
